Jamling, the son of legendary Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, has been working with Mountain Hardwear for the majority of the company's existence. He was the climbing Leader of the 1996 IMAX Everest Expedition with David Breashears. And as his father had first done with Ed Hillary in 1953, Jamling also summitted Mt. Everest on 23 May 1996.
After summiting Everest, Jamling traveled around the world for a year promoting the IMAX movie. He then returned to Darjeeling to his wife and daughter. In the spring of 2001 he wrote an international bestselling book Touching My Father's Soul: A Sherpa's Journey to the Top of Everest, which was published by Harper Collins.
Jamling has continued to travel around the world as a keynote inspirational speaker. Jamling also leads climbs on small peaks and guides treks in Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan. He is the owner of Tenzing Norgay Adventures, an adventure travel company that was started by his late parents. The big question in most people's minds is whether there are going to be any more big peaks in Jamling's future, the answer is “NO”. A promise he had made to his wife and family, though he was recently able to talk his family into letting him guide on smaller peaks.
